About Soulful Mosaics
Donna Slawsky moved with her husband, Jim Copening (chef and bass player), to the Gulf Coast of Florida in 2011 from Greenwich Village in NYC. They opened a successful restaurant in the Bradenton Village of the Arts -- Arts & Eats. After living on Anna Maria Island for 10 years, they moved to the vibrant city of St. Petersburg.
Donna's Story
The colors, textures, and natural surroundings of the Gulf Coast drive me to create mosaics that depict the beauty which surrounds us. Attention to detail, especially in mosaics of birds, is driven by a love and admiration for the natural world.
It gives me great pleasure to create art from objects that might otherwise be discarded, such as broken glass and china. Creating beauty from that which is broken serves as a metaphor for using life’s experiences, both difficult and enlightening, to create a beautiful life held together by inner strength and character.
